Darris Johnson died from a heart attack in custody of Portland Police officers after he ran from a routine car stop. He was twenty-six years old.
The Multnomah County District Attorney found no reason to indict the officers involved. Here is a letter describing the incident. .Johnson’s urine drug screen was positive for methamphetamine and marijuana. He was on parole and assigned to the mentally ill offenders case load of the Multnomah County, and had a warrant for his arrest for failure to engage in treatment.

All persons who died as a result of police action in Portland since at least 2002 were impaired by mental illness, drugs or alcohol.
