In 2013 the Oregon legislature passed HB3194 to reduce the size and cost of our state prison system. HB3194 flat-lines prison growth over the next 5 years, and saves money with prison reforms such as reduced sentences and extended transitional leave. Funds saved were reinvested in Oregon counties for programs and services to help reduce prison intakes, protect the public and lower recidivism. Steve Berger discusses how Washington County Community Corrections plans to spend the $1,277,299 it received from the Justice Reinvestment Fund.
