Meet Leon Scott. He will live most of his life in our state prisons, costing about $40,000 per year.
His charges – murder (guilty), delivery of cocaine, delivery of methamphetamine, dog fighting, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine.
Leon and the cost keeping Leon secure for many years is a tangential consequence of the chronic underfunding of addiction treatment by the Oregon state legislature.
EXTRA – Police say acquaintance shot and killed Portland man, KATU.com
He’s not just an addict he also has a sleep disorder that caused him to get up in the middle of the night and have violent episodes since we were little kids. The person he shot was someone who knew that and knew he had a gun and chose to break into his house in the middle of the night anyways Looking for drugs. I spoke at his trial about how if he and the victim had received treatment instead of being shunned by society this would have never happened. The victim had broken into several of his own family members homes and several of them had restraining orders against him.
Yeah and I’m sure all the drugs and late night dog fighting had nothing to do with it. Having a sleep disorder is not a predisposition to murder, but I know meth probably gives a person a sleep disorder. Perhaps had he not been using and dealing drugs and had possession of an illegal firearm he wouldn’t have killed anyone nor been shunned by society.
I knew leon And It was just a matter of time Before he killed someone, sleep disorder ya he did not sleep because he did meth, x, And Coke sometimes. He sat on his couch at night with a gun in hand and a shotgun not far away watching his outside camera. I had alot of love for that guy at one time but drugs cause you to do very bad things to people. Funny how you can have all the charges he had including a murder and only do 10 years, thats right he was released in 2018…
