Suspect in slaying of his psychiatrist unfit to stand trial

A man accused in the shotgun slaying of his psychiatrist in a downtown Portland office has been declared unable to stand trial.

Multnomah County Circuit Judge Richard Unis ordered John C. Eaton, 38, of Portland confined in the Oregon State Hospital at Salem until he is able to face trial.

Eaton is accused of fatally shooting Dr. Michael J. McCulloch, 41, in the psychiatrist’s office June 26.

Eaton’s trial had been tentatively scheduled to begin Monday.
