The Mexican Consulate has set up an account for the family of Jose Santos Victor Mejia Poot at US Bank.

Proceeds will help the family cover expenses incurred to bury Mejia in his hometown of Mani in the Mexican state of Yucatan.

Contributions to the Jose Santos Mejia Poot Family Relief Fund can be made at any US Bank in the Portland area.

Meanwhile, friends of the family have set up collection boxes in Mexican stores in Northeast Portland.

The boxes have a picture of Mejia and read, “Support our fallen brother.”

Beneath the picture, text mentions his hometown as well as the family’s phone number for support calls.
