Oregon State Hospital social worker runs for state senate

From the Salem Statesman Journal, August 2, 2010

Jackie Pierce, a retired psychiatric social worker at Oregon State Hospital, is the new Democratic nominee against Republican Sen. Jackie Winters.

Pierce was named unanimously Thursday by Democratic precinct members in Senate District 10, which covers South and West Salem, downtown Salem, Aumsville and Turner, and Monmouth and Independence. She replaces Bill Dalton of Salem (former exceutive director of the NAMI of Oregon), who was nominated in the May 18 primary but withdrew because of his health.

“I’m running for the Oregon Senate because I believe I’m the best person to get Oregon back on track while protecting the vital services that Oregonians rely on,” Pierce said.

“As a social worker, I’ve been helping people my entire life. Running for Senate is the next step for me to give back to our community.”
Pierce and her husband, Alan, live in West Salem.

Winters, who lives in Salem, is seeking her third term; she also was in the Oregon House four years.
