Media Advisory: Oregon State Hospital Public Open House and Tour

From the Oregon Health Authority, Feb. 15, 2011:

Contact: Rebeka Gipson-King, 503-756-0366

What: Public open house and tour of Oregon State Hospital’s newly completed patient wing

When: Friday, March 2, 1 to 6:30 p.m.

Where: Oregon State Hospital, 2600 Center Street NE, Salem

Details: Oregon State Hospital invites the public to come and explore its recently completed patient living and treatment wing during an open house on Friday, March 2. The new wing will house two treatment programs: Bridges, the transition program for patients nearing the point where they no longer need hospital-level care, and Springs, which serves civilly-committed patients who require hospital-level care for dementia, brain injury or mental illness. The opening of this wing marks the completion of the new world-class psychiatric hospital.

From 1 to 6:30pm, visitors may take a self-guided tour, or join one of the limited numbers of guided tours that will be offered. The open house will be the last opportunity for the general public to see the inside of the new hospital before patients move into the wing. Areas available to view include patient bedrooms, common areas, treatment malls, courtyards, and the Kirkbride Café, to learn more about the daily lives of patients, their participation in treatment and their preparation for their transition back to the community.

Hospital staff will be stationed throughout Bridges and Springs to answer questions and provide information about how improvement to the new hospital will help patients in their treatment and recovery.
