The man drove into the parking lot at Northeast Emerson and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in a Jeep. He was outside it when he shot himself at about 2:30 p.m., according to police.
The Jeep is registered to a man who only has a few traffic tickets.
There was no one else with him.
Police spokesman Lt. Robert King said witnesses observed the man pull into the police vehicle parking lot in Northeast Portland around 2:30 p.m., get out of his car and fatally shoot himself with a firearm. The man died on the scene of the single gunshot wound.
The identity of the man has not been revealed and he is said to have been the only person involved. The incident is under investigation.
