Honeyman Battled barriers blocking the disabled
Art Honeyman, 68, author, poet and most recently movie-star subject, died Monday in Seattle. He had been visiting friends.
He was portrayed by British actor Michael Sheen in the movie “Music Within.”
Honeyman, who was born with cerebral palsy, battled to knock down barriers which blocked the disabled from participating fully in life. He had a master’s degree in literature from Portland State University, although he had to fight to get in as an undergrad.
He didn’t start to write until he was in his late 20s. His 1977 children’s book, “Sam and His Cart,” loosely based on his childhood, was made into a movie.

“He touched a lot of people’s lives,” said Diana Borquist, a longtime friend. “He’ll tell you: ‘Don’t feel sorry for me, feel sorry for people who can’t accept me.’ ”
Borquist said memorial services are pending.

To All That Knew Art and His Cart,
Arthur was a man of many colors and aspirations. He was also my Grandfather, he infact had seven Grandchildren in which he tried keeping in touch with. He was a beautiful man and his heart was even prettier. We are all so shook up that he passed, we thought he was Superman by day and Clark Kent by night never showing what his kryponite was and how it made him feel.
I love him and always will, I look at his pictures and he is still everywhere we go and his smells and his blue eyes will never seem to amaze me.
He is missed and cherished in memories.

Years ago I collaborated with a friend of Arthur Honeyman’s named Sam Gholson. Sam wanted to do something special for his friend Arthur so he created a sound track to go with the book “Sam and His Cart”. If I do say so myself the sound track goes wonderfully with the story. Sam had a knack for coming up with good ideas. For my part I played bass and did some midi programming. I never would have thought that back in the 80’s that a movie would be done about Arthur or that “Sam and His Cart” would become a movie as well. Life has interesting turns and twists. Always good to have a positive outlook on life because we don’t know where we will cross paths again down the road in life. I’m Sorry to hear about Arthur’s passing. He touched me too.
I am unable to find any information on the movie “Sam and His Cart” I checked IMDB and came up with nothing. If anyone can tell me where to find the movie or info on the mobvie please send it to jec1957@aol.com and put Sam and His Cart in the subject.
i was a student at john adams high school where i met art though the class was history i learned more from this man then i ever imagined besides history he taught me to look beyond the physical limitations and look into the soul of a man i was saddened to hear of his passing but am so blessed for knowing him and being able to assist him as he taught me fair winds and following seas old friend may we meet again some day
met art as a student at John Adams High School he was my history teacher but taught me more he taught me to look into a mans soul look past any physical limitations and became more then a teacher but a friend and a mentor i was saddened to hear of his passing but glad i had a chance to learn the special gifts he had to offer.fair winds and following seas old friend may we meet again someday.
after all these years I remember my first day at John Adams high school, working on the custodial crew. I was offered coffee, Tim said “it wasn’t too bad, look what it did to Art”. And Art laughed and laughed. He visited the custodial crew regularly. A memory I cherish.
I met Art in the summer of 1969. I renner his cart. Motivation to continue to display love and joy. We can all get along there is god in us all, rise up. Jammie Hampton introduced us.
