Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare will celebrate the grand reopening of the Garlington Center, a Northeast Portland mental health and addiction services clinic, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon Friday and a neighborhood block party from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The center suffered a fire in October that made the building uninhabitable. It maintained services to its more than 500 clients from temporary trailers in the center’s parking lot.

With the building at 3034 N.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. repaired, Garlington will now share the space with North by Northeast Community Health Center and Cascadia’s SMYRC (Sexual Minority Youth Resource Center.)

“Sharing the space with North by Northeast Community Health Center and SMYRC makes this a very strong and unique community resource for Portland’s most vulnerable citizens, and demonstrates Cascadia’s commitment to the North/Northeast neighborhood,” said Cascadia’s board chairman Rick Cagen.

The ribbon-cutting will include State Rep. Chip Shields, D-Portland, plus former State Sens. Avel Gordly and Margaret Carter, and former Mayor Tom Potter. Tours and refreshments will follow.

On Saturday, Garlington Center, along with its new tenants, will host a block party to celebrate the reopening. The event will include a catered picnic lunch, children’s play area, face painting, DJ and live music, and local poets.

OUR COMMENT – This is almost the word-for-word CBH press release sent out last week. The question which hasn’t been asked or answered is, when will there be an arrest for the arson which nearly wiped out Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare and endangered the medical records of ten thousand individuals with mental illness and addiction?
