Before Hilkka Bartlett moved from northern California to Roseburg, she researched mental health facilities for her son, who suffers from schizophrenia.

No problem, officials at Douglas County Mental Health told her on the phone. Just come in.

That was in 2001. Things have changed since then. The county no longer oversees mental health services, and Mercy Medical Center, the only hospital in Roseburg besides Veterans Affairs, no longer has a behavioral health unit. Continue reading at OregonLive.com
