At 4:48 when sanity visits for one hour and twelve minutes I am in my right mind.

4.48 Psychosis was written by Sarah Kane, a young playwright who committed suicide only two weeks after she finished writing it. Many consider this her apology, her epithaph or her suicide letter…many also consider this her best work.

4:48 Psychosis is a riveting and unflinching journey into the human mind at its darkest hour. Set in undefined locations, Kane’s script contains no stage directions or defined characters – blurring the line between reality and illusion, poetry and dialogue. Like all of Kane’s work, 4:48 Psychosis challenges and defies easy categorization; as The London Times put it “there’s nothing else like it in the language.”

We have received a generous grant from RACC and the Work For Art program to hire a mental health professional as consult and we are pleased to have Jason Kuttner, a licensed mental health and substance abuse counselor, on board with this project. He has made himself available to our cast and audience at open rehearsals and post-show talkbacks.

Depression and manic depression is deeply misunderstood by both the medical community and society at large. We are inviting you to participate in our attempt to make the struggle for love, strength and sanity an open discussion, instead of a condition to be ashamed of.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about the inner life of a woman made both famous and suicidal by her own genius. 4.48 Psychosis plays March 5th – April 10th at 8 PM, Thursdays through Sundays.
